Enhancements include support for improved reliability and efficiency utilizing internal switch technology to attach to each disk drive within the EXP710 enclosure. The new EXP710 can be used with the IBM TotalStorage DS4500, DS4400, and DS4300 with Turbo Midrange Disk Systems that have been updated to the latest firmware level provided with the IBM TotalStorage DS4000 Storage Manager V9.10. The EXP710 is designed to support the same 2 Gbps Fibre Channel Disk Modules available for the IBM TotalStorage DS4000 EXP700 Fibre Channel Storage Expansion Unit and can scale to over two terabytes (TB) of disk storage capacity per enclosure using the higher capacity Disk Modules. The EXP710 can be used with EXP700 Storage Expansion Units on the same DS4500, DS4400, and DS4300 with Turbo Disk Systems. A new EXP700 Switched Enclosure Service Module (ESM) option is planned to be available in November to upgrade current EXP700 enclosures to the equivalent internal switching capabilities as the EXP710 for the supported DS4000 Disk Systems.
