IBM's new portfolio offers retailers the flexibility to implement popular self checkout in more store formats. IBM's comprehensive self checkout offerings now include five models - the versatile Model 171 conveyor belt model and four scan-and-bag models, all with a variety of bagging options. These systems can be customized for retailers looking for specific colors or formats. Highlights of the announcement include: - Improved ergonomic design across product line - for the first time, all components are located above the counter and are organized for a more logical, intuitive transaction flow, helping make self checkout even easier and faster to use. - Improved cash management - Cash replenishment and management is now even easier with a new retail friendly bill/note cassette and dispenser as well as an optional high-capacity coin hopper. - New sleek design with improved durability - Stainless steel and curved corners for an updated consumer friendly look combine with more durable hardware components to help enhance reliability. - Flexibility and innovation in model offerings - Additional bagging options and new model configurations, including the Model 151 unit with a carousel attachment, help retailers optimize throughput in numerous store sizes and layouts. The ability to place units back-to-back gives retailers additional flexibility in implementing unique checkout configurations. IBM offers innovative features like the placement of all devices, including cash acceptors and dispensers, at or above counter level within easy reach of the shopper, helping make it even easier and faster to use, and helping reduce the possibility of leaving change or cash behind. The new models range from large systems for warehouse environments to small models that can fit in remote departments. The new model 151 with a carousel attachment allows for even larger orders to be processed in space-constrained areas.
