CHICAGO, IL – October 15, 2006 – IBM today kicked off the Graph Expo Conference and Exposition with a wide-ranging demonstration of innovative production output technologies. On display during the four-day conference are demonstrations of a color ink jet technology, enhancements to IBM’s flagship Infoprint 4100 monochrome production printer, and cutting-edge workflow technologies. Color Technology Demonstration. IBM is demonstrating a high speed color ink jet technology that could address requirements for speed, quality, reliability and ease of use for transactional printers, service bureaus, direct mailers and book printers. The continuous form, full-color demonstration uses piezo-electric drop-on-demand inkjet technology that, with its high speed, could help accelerate job completion and enable the consolidation of footprints. This technology is designed to efficiently jet water-based pigmented inks that are resistant to fading and smearing, including on digital papers. The controller for the Infoprint color technology is powered by an IBM server at speeds of up to 209.9 feet/minute (64 meters/minute) or 916 full-color, two-up tandem duplex, letter-size impressions/minute (862 A4 impressions/minute). The technology is using a 20.4\" web with up to 19.96\" print width and is designed to deliver excellent print quality at 720 x 360 dot per inch (dpi) resolution.
