The ES/9000 platform also offers integration across the extended and open enterprise with superior technology and innovation. Using state-of-the-art technology and design, the ES/9000 processors bring the advantages of ESA/390 to the following operating system environments: Virtual Storage Extended/Enterprise Systems Architecture (VSE/ESA), Virtual Machine/Enterprise Systems Architecture (VM/ESA), Multiple Virtual Storage/Enterprise Systems Architecture (MVS/ESA) and Advanced Interactive Executive/Enterprise Systems Architecture (AIX/ESA). Additional benefits are gained through increased performance and availability. The ES/9000 family offers advanced features and functions designed to break new ground in application opportunities. These include vector processing, cryptography and a fiber-optic channel implementation of IBM's Enterprise Systems Connection Architecture (ESCON), which provides data transfer rates of up to 17 megabytes per second (MB/sec.), and parallel channels with data rates of up to 4.5MB/sec.
