BESCHREIBUNG: Current magnetic storage density limitations due to superparamagnetic effects can be overcome by thermally assisted writing. This image shows: Dependence of the domain size on the heat power for writing bits on a Tb19Fe81 film. (A) shows the resulting Kerr optical image and (B) the MFM image of the same domains. The first row is written with 76 mW focused onto the lever. In each subsequent row, the optical power is reduced 23% with respect to that in the previous row. By carefully adjusting the heat power, small bits on the order of 70 nm can be written in the magnetic film.
